The Living Corpse - A fans thoughts

by: Don Johnston

I am a Marvel zombie, and I will be the first to admit to that fact. In 2006 I received a copy of The Corpse, a comic by two creators that graduated from the Kubert School. Being a Zombie fan I decided I would give a look, and I am so glad that I did.Living Corpse

In my opinion, The Living Corpse is that one zombie that George Romero had in every one of his movies, the headliner Zombie. From the Graveyard Zombie in Night of the Living Dead, Flyboy King Zombie in the original Dawn of the Dead, Big Daddy in Land of the Dead and even non Romero creation but close to all of our hearts Tar-Man zombie. Headliner Zombie’s make a lasting impression on us. Any zombie can be a part of the Zombie Herd but it takes a special zombie to be a Headliner, especially in the comic world.

In addition to being one of the undead, The Living Corpse has some of the best one-liners in comics. In my opinion the one-liners are so good, that are on par with those from Bruce Campbell or even Don Rickles.

The creators, Ken Haeser and Buz Hasson, have truly done their homework in zombie Lore. In a past interview, the creative duo explained how Return of the Living Dead was big influence on their character and the book. The tongue and check black humor of Return of the Living Dead is found in the DNA of The Living Corpse and his fans love it!

When the comic publishing was taken over by Zenescope Entertainment I went to all of the local comic urging them to order the book. Talk about doing the hard sell to these LCS owners! They thought I was strong arming them for the book, and they were right, haha!

As a fan, I just wanted to get the word out there for one of the freshest books I had seen in a while. This is a title that is done by creators that actually care for and love the genre. Starting a creator owned book is a tough road to go down, but when it is something that you are passionate about then it is up to you to get your product out there.

The other zombies that have been spotlighted here on ComicMonsters.com are a very impressive and rare breed in the comic industry. The Living Corpse deserves to have his chair at the “All You Can Eat Brains Banquet”.
