Issue 2 of The Light by Nathan Edmondson has hit store shelves, and we
will take another walkthrough it as we did with issue one. As before,
this will be spoiler free except where indicated. (Issue
1 walkthrough can be found here)
Main Characters:
Coyle and Avery: At this point it's a given that these are the main two
characters and will be throughout.
Nameless Woman: Edmondson introduces a new character, one who survives
a plane crash and clearly is more then a little disoriented by it. She
has no idea where she is and doesn't even know what was happening with
the light. No real deep personality was shown, yet the character does,
in my opinion, act as a way for the reader to see the event from a different
point of view. It enables the reader to see it from the POV of someone
who has completely never informed of the situation and the jettisoned
into it in the worst possible way.
Plot:
This issue was mainly about escaping. Getting away from the city they
are in, in hopes of finding a safe place. Coyle does make an observation
about the light. He believes that the light that is connected to a power
source (presumably a large power source like an outlet that's powered
by a large generator) is what is harming people. We do see evidence of
this within this issue (and even in the first issue).
Avery is very adamant about going to find her mother where as Coyle feels
that it's too dangerous. This acts as the root of a lot of their arguments
until they witness a plane crash. At the site of the crash there is one
survivor, a woman in which we don't get her name. Disoriented and stunned
by the crash this new character is “rescued” by Coyle and Avery who take
her into their car and explain to her what has been happening with the
light. Naturally, she is taken back by this information but in effort
to try to recuperate from what has happened to her, she tells them that
she needs some medication. The three of them then decide to stop at a
store to get medication and anything else they need on their trip. As
for how it ends, it's a bit of a spoiler but you can read about it in
the non-spoiler free part of this article.
Main Events [NOT spoiler free from here on out]:
There are two main events that happen right at the end of the comic. As
well as something to wonder.
The
Television
Near the end of the comic the new character decides to turn on the television
inside the convenience store. This, obviously, creates light in which
she is looking into and as the rest of the people in the comic she starts
to burn.
The
Shooting
Right after she looks at the television and starts burning, two unknown
men appear and shoot her on the very last page of the comic. We have no
idea who these people are or where they came from, but issue 3 looks like
it is set up to be an interesting read.
Something
the wonder
Avery has looked
into the light several times and nothing has happened to her. As said
above, Coyle believes that light that has a power source is causing the
effects and Avery has not looked into light generated by a large power
source. Though, I wouldn't say that it isn't hard to believe that maybe,
just maybe, there is something about Avery that we (and even they) don't
know yet. Just something to consider.
