Anne Rice's The Mummy was published by Millennium from 1990-1992.

An archaeologist finds the tomb of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Ramses and is killed after he ignores the curse on the tomb's door. The treasure from the late archaeologist's find is sent to his daughter in England. When in the daughter's care, the mummy of the ancient ruler comes to life and the young lady falls in love with him. As she teaches him about the modern world, Ramses is enraged by the way his culture is depicted and how its ancient wonders have been prostituted for tourism. The young lady brings Ramses to a museum, where he recognizes an unidentified mummy as his old love, Cleopatra. The ancient ruler revives his queen with an immortality elixir, but she does not return to her former beauty -- instead she awakens as a rotting corpse.
