In 1954, Dr. Fredric Wertham’s infamous book, Seduction of the Innocent, scared a generation into believing that comic books were destroying the minds and morals of the younger generation. A witch hunt tensued and, many comic companies were forced out of business. The remaining ones were forced to submit their stories for approval from the Comics Code Authority. The CCA would only approve comics that it felt met a certain moral standard. Without that stamp, a comic was virtually unsalable.
Pacific/Eclipse Comics presented its own Seduction of the Innocent, reprinting classics from now-forgotten National Comics and Toby Publishing.
