Coming this October, GLENN McQUAID's award winning motion picture starring DOMINIC MONAGHAN, LARRY FASSENDEN and RON PERLMAN will be made into a comic book.

We spoke with Glenn McQuaid about I Sell the Dead.

The Big Bad Wolf: Can you give our readers a synopsis of I Sell the Dead?

I sell the dead comicGlenn McQuaid: I Sell The Dead is the story of two body snatchers who discover that some of their corpses are biting back, but instead of running in fear they decide to try and make a profit. And so they enter a world of trading the undead, finding and selling all manor of creatures to keep them in beer money! It's set in the 19th Century, somewhere in the British Isles.

The Big Bad Wolf: Who are the main characters?

Glenn McQuaid: Willie Grimes and his protegee Arthur Blake are the main characters, the Burke and Hare of the story. The movie is told through the eyes of Arthur as he reminisces on his past jobs to Father Francis Murphy, played by Ron Perlman. We meet many strange characters such as The House of Murphy - a gang of supernatural body snatchers and the twisted Dr Vernon Quint, played by Angus Scrimm.

The Big Bad Wolf: How did you come up with the idea for this story?

Glenn McQuaid: I'm a big fan of films like Robert Wise's The Body Snatcher and Freddie Francis' The Doctor and the Devils and I wanted to explore the grave robbing trade in a feature film myself. I was also reading books on Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn as well a book called The Italian Boy (A tale of murder and Body Snatching) by Sarah Wise. So the story really came from everything I was reading and even all of the music I was listening to at the time.

The Big Bad Wolf: How was it working on the film with guys like Ron Perlman, Dominic Monaghan and Larry Fessenden?

Glenn McQuaid: In a word, wonderful! I couldn't have asked for a better cast. I have admired Ron's work for a very long time and it was great to have him on set, a great collaborator! Dominic was a fan of the script and really got the character of Arthur Blake, so with a little finagling we managed to get him secured as he finished up on Lost. Dom loves comics and I think it helped that we sent him an early draft of our comic as well as the script, it probably looked like we knew what we were doing! Larry is great, lots of fun in the movie and always good to have another director on set!

The Big Bad Wolf: When is the movie due out?I sell the dead comic

Glenn McQuaid: IFC Films release it in NYC on Friday the 7th of August, LA on the 12th and I believe Boston on the 28th, more cities to come. It also hits VOD on August 12th which will see the movie available in 50 million homes across the States! Blockbuster have an exclusive on the DVD which starts in November. Anchor Bay release the DVD in Canada, UK and Australia in November.

The Big Bad Wolf: How did you hook up with Image Comics to turn this film into a comic book?

Glenn McQuaid: The connection with image is through Brahm Revel. Braham has his own series called Guerillas, which Image is putting out. He also put out a comic adaptation of Larry Fessenden's The Last Winter through Image. I'm very excited to get my work out through these guys, I'm a bit Robert Kirkman fan too, The Walking Dead is a classic!

The Big Bad Wolf: What was the most difficult thing about adapting this film into the comic format?

Glenn McQuaid: We adapted the script at a very early stage, before I was even on set and so I didnt find anything too difficult about the process, in fact it was invaluable and helped shape the final film.

The Big Bad Wolf: How was it working on the comic with artist, Brahm Revel?

Glenn McQuaid: It was really great to work with him and to kick start the visual exploration with a comic book. I love his work and really admire what he has done with Fessenden in the past such as Wendigo and The Last Winter.

The Big Bad Wolf: What impressed you the most about his work?

I sell the dead comicGlenn McQuaid: His use of black is quite bold and reminds me of people like Johnny Craig, also his characters are very expressive, he can show exactly what's going on in the mind of whoever he is drawing. I also love his story telling, Guerillas is my favorite comic out there at the moment. I'm very excited by what he's up to.

The Big Bad Wolf: When is the release date for the comic?

Glenn McQuaid: October 7th.

The Big Bad Wolf: How much is the book?

Glenn McQuaid: I believe it will be $4.99.

The Big Bad Wolf: Where can our readers find out more about I Sell the Dead?

Glenn McQuaid: The website is updated regularly so hit up www.isellthedead.com and Larry's website www.glasseyepix.com is constantly buzzing with news on I Sell The Dead and his various other projects.

The Big Bad Wolf: In closing, what would you like to say to our readers about I Sell the Dead comic?

Glenn McQuaid: It's a horror anthology of sorts and it wears it's heart on it's sleeve. Fans of EC, Creepy and Eerie are going to love it!

The Big Bad Wolf: Thank you for your time, Glenn! Best of luck with I SELL THE DEAD!
