NAZI ZOMBIES are coming to the pages of BloodRayne.
We spoke with writer and three-time Howard E. Day Memorial Award nominee, Chad Lambert, about BloodRayne: Revenge of the Butcheress.
The Big Bad Wolf: Have you always been a fan of BloodRayne?
Chad Lambert: Definitely. Rayne is such a great character, and the games are populated by an incredible universe of villains. This material translates beautifully into comic books. Ed Dukeshire and everyone at Digital Webbing has done a great job with the series so far.
The Big Bad Wolf: Can you give us a synopsis of BloodRayne: Revenge of The Butcheress?
Chad Lambert:
Rayne uncovers a plot to awaken an army of Nazi zombies who will be lead into battle by The Butcheress. However, her motives are the focus of the story. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill Nazi zombies, either. These are soldiers from the Gegengheist Gruppe (G.G.G.) whose original mission was to keep Hitler in power through the use of the occult.
The Big Bad Wolf: This is the first comic appearance of The Butcheress. For those that may have never had the chance to play BloodRayne, can you give our readers some information about the character and her powers?
Chad Lambert:
The Butcheress is Dr Báthory Mengele, a scientist who develops Daemite technology for the G.G.G. in the first game. She is a descendant of Elizabeth Báthory, a serial killer from the late 1500s who was known as the “Blood Countess.” She wears stiletto heels and uses bone saws as her weapons. She was left for dead in a fiery Daemite pit by Rayne in the first game.
The Big Bad Wolf:
What other characters will appear in this book?
Chad Lambert:
A couple of rather popular ladies will make an appearance for the final battle - one of whom is Ferril. I don’t want to give too much away, but the last half of the book is an old school cat fight that will not disappoint.
The Big Bad Wolf: What can we expect from this book in terms of blood and gore?
Chad Lambert:
We’re talking zombies and really angry women with bone saws and blades. Let’s just say it won’t be civil.
The Big Bad Wolf: Who is the rest of the creative team involved in this book?
Chad Lambert: We’ve got David Miller penciling this one, and he’s knocking it out of the park. I wasn’t familiar with his work prior to this book, but now I’m terrified he’s going to get picked up by Marvel or DC before he finishes our book. He’s amazing.
The Big Bad Wolf: What has impressed you the most with David Miller’s artwork?
Chad Lambert: He has a great sense of movement. This story has some insanely fast pacing and he’s hitting every beat. My hope is that this particular issue feels like you’re playing a missing part of the game.
The Big Bad Wolf: When is the release date and how much is BloodRayne: Revenge of The Butcheress?
Chad Lambert: It will hit shops in November and retail for $3.99.
The Big Bad Wolf:

Big Bad Wolf: In closing, what would you like to say to our readers about BloodRayne: Revenge of The Butcheress?
Chad Lambert:
The Butcheress is, without question, the most underrated character from the first game. You could do an entire mini-series just on her back story alone. I wanted to tell a Butcheress story that was different than the standard character resurrection formula that would be so easy to do. This story ties a lot of loose threads together, both from the BloodRayne: Prime Cuts spin-off series I’ve been writing for the last year and the game continuity. Fundamentally though, I just wanted to have some fun with it and make something that’s not bogged down with a lot of continuity from the comic book series. This is a great chance for new readers to give the BloodRayne comic a spin.
The Big Bad Wolf: Thank you for your time,
Chad! Best of luck with the BloodRayne comic!
