The ghoulish monsters and sexy seductresses known as the Darkstalkers are back! Morrigan, Demitri, Bishamon, and Donovan are joined by newcomers like Huitzil, Anakaris, and Q-Bee. It's man VS demon, robot VS mummy, succubus VS vampire and more, as the creatures of the night battle for control of the darkness!
We caught up with the Managing Editor of Udon Entertainment, Matt Moylan, to discuss the Darkstalkers comic.
The Big Bad Wolf: Which characters will we see in Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors?
Matt Moylan: The main focus in the new Darkstalkers series will be on
Morrigan(succubus),
Demitiri(vampire), Donovan(darkhunter), and Pyron(alien). But we've got
a
ton of other characters showing up along the way, many for the first
time,
including Felicia(cat girl), Anakaris(mummy), Huitzil(robot),
Sasquatch(bigfoot), Q-Bee(bee-girl) and more.
The Big Bad Wolf: Can you fill us in on the storyline for this comic series?
Matt Moylan: Well, Darkstalkers are creatures of the night - Vampires and
werewolves,
mummies and zombies, swamp monsters and ghosts. Some have crossed over
to
our world from another dimension, some are the result of nature gone
wrong,
while others come from wild experiments or even from beyond the stars.
In
this strange new world, some Darkstalkers fight for acceptance, some for
power, and some to make up for past sins.
In "Night Warriors" demon hunter Donovan is forced to deal with his dark
origins. At the same time, vampire lord Demitri will finally make his
move
for control of the demon dimension of Makai, with only Morrigan standing
in
his way. And to top it all off, the ancient alien force Pyron arrives on
Earth seeking to suck the planet dry of all life. It's a lot to tackle
in 3
issues!.
The Big Bad Wolf: What can we expect from this comic in terms of blood and guts?
Matt Moylan: Darkstalkers has never been much for actual 'blood & guts" gore,
focusing on
fighting rather than horror. But that said, at least one Darkstalker
meets a
fairly gruesome end in the first issue!
The Big Bad Wolf: When is the first issue due out and what is the cover price?
Matt Moylan: The full-color Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors #1(of 3) arrives in
comic
book shops everywhere January 2010, for the price of $3.99.
The Big Bad Wolf: Who is the creative team involved on this book?
Matt Moylan: The series is written by regular Darkstalkers scribe Ken Siu-chong.
Pencils
are handled by Joe Vriens(who worked on the first Darkstlakers comic
series)
and Eric Vedder(who recently provided the Final Fight backups stories in
our
Street Fighter series). Inks & colours will be handled respectively by
Crystal Reid & Espen Grundetjern.
The Big Bad Wolf: Will each issue feature alternate covers?
Matt Moylan: Each issue will feature two covers. The A covers to all 3 issues connect
to
form one massive image of all the Darkstalkers characters, drawn by
longtime
UDON artist Alvin Lee. Each issue also features a B cover by Emily
Warren,
each showcasing one of the sexy Darkstalker ladies.
The Big Bad Wolf: Will there be any additional materials in the comics such as backup
stories
or pin-ups?
Matt Moylan: Each issue will also feature a 4 page backup story, starting with a
Q-bee
story in issue #1. These backups are always a good chance to showcase
some
of the characters who may not have a big role in the main story.
The Big Bad Wolf: Where can our readers find out more about Darkstalkers: The Night
Warriors?
Matt Moylan: Any new updates about the series(and all our other comic, artbook &
manga
projects) can be found at www.UDONentertainment.com.
The Big Bad Wolf: In closing what would you like to say Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors?
Matt Moylan: I'd just like to say that if you like crazy fight sequences, sexy girls,
things that go bump in the night, or any combination of those, you'll
want
to try out Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors.
And for anyone who missed out on our previous Darkstalkers comics, you
can
pick up the trade paperback of the entire series at Amazon.com or
any
comic book shop or book store can order you a copy.
The Big Bad Wolf: Thank you for your time, Matt! Good luck with this Darkstalkers comic.
