The Shelter is a zombie adventure where readers get to know Violet, a young lady searching for a safe haven from the infestation that left her alone, scared and with no where else to turn. She is dependant upon herself to survive this zombie outbreak.
We caught up with co-creator, Dwayne Biddix, to talk about The Shelter.
The Big
Bad Wolf: It’s nice to have you back to talk about your other book, The Shelter, what did you do on this one?
Dwayne Biddix: I am the co-creator, penciler, cover colorist, and letterer.
The Big Bad Wolf: So what can you tell me about The Shelter?
Dwayne Biddix:
The Shelter was a fun zombie story that Editor in Chief, Chris Carpenter, and I have had in mind since we started the studio.
The Big Bad Wolf:
What's it all about?
Dwayne Biddix:
It is a zombie story. A girl is flushed out of her safe house and must journey to what she hopes is a ‘shelter’ from the zombie plague.
The Big Bad Wolf: Who are the main characters?
Dwayne Biddix:
Violet Swanson is the main character as well as an unnamed person from the shelter. Pretty much everyone else is a bloodthirsty killer.
The Big Bad Wolf: Where did this idea come from?
Dwayne Biddix:
The idea grew from an ending we thought would be pretty brutal. We were thinking that all horror ends with a ray of hope. What if this story didn’t?
The Big Bad Wolf: If you were to give this book a movie style rating (G, PG, PG-13, R, X) what would it get, and why would you say that?
Dwayne Biddix:
Hmm. Hard PG-13. A bit gruesome. And some language. But pretty open.
The Big Bad Wolf: What are you hoping readers can take away from this story?
Dwayne Biddix:
Not to trust your most important things to an unfounded sense of hope.
The Big Bad Wolf: Is this a series that we can expect more from in the future?
Dwayne Biddix:
Umm, I kinda doubt it. This is an all in one kind of story. Though this issue does launch our ‘One Shot In The Dark’ horror line. We will be doing a series of horror one shots that, if popular, we will spin off into bigger projects. This is a sort of tryout book.
The Big Bad Wolf:
Anything else about future projects you can tell us?
Dwayne Biddix:
We have many ideas we are exploring. But, sorry nothing I can talk about at the moment.
The Big Bad Wolf:
What is the latest horror movie you watched and did it make an impact on your creatively at all?
Dwayne Biddix:
The Eye staring Jessica Alba. Didn’t care for it. The Asian version was WAY better, loved part 2. All movies impact me, either how to do things better or how NOT to do things.
The Big Bad Wolf:
So where can readers find out more about this book?
Dwayne Biddix:
www.hardwaystudios.com/theshelter.
The Big Bad Wolf:
So in summary give me a quick recap on The Shelter and why fans should give it a try.
Dwayne Biddix:
It’s a zombie story with an ending that will make you feel like crying.
The Big Bad Wolf: Thank you for your time,
Dwayne. Best of luck with The Shelter!
