This October Moonstone Books has an event called Return of the Monsters.

We caught up with Moonstone Books publisher, Joe Gentile, to talk about what the event means for the Moonstone Universe.

Horror News Network: Tell us a bit about your Return of the Monsters event?

Joe Gentile: Well we thought it would be cool to have our pulp heores square off against the various montser archetypes!  We thought with the rich history of pulp storytelling...that it seemed a very natural fit filled with thrills that we dont often see in comics.

Horror News Network: Can you give us a synopsis of the Spider vs. Werewolf comic?

Joe Gentile:  A seething, ferocious nightmare from the Spider’s dark past invades New York City, preying upon the innocent and the helpless.  Mutilated victims are strewn in the blood-slick streets, and once normal men have become murderous monsters.  The Master of Men must face the deadly demons alone.  Not even his beloved Nita Van Sloan can be trusted when everyone—including the Spider himself—may not be what they seem.

Horror News Network: Who is the creative team involved in the book?

Joe Gentile: Writer Martin Powell, artist Jay Piscopo, and cover artist Dan Brereton.

Horror News Network: Can you give us a synopsis of the Black Bat vs. Dracula comic?

Joe Gentile:
...spine-tingling tale of darkness, lust and fear this spine-tingling tale of darkness...

For the first time in history three eras collide in one place as Pulp Fiction's newest heroine, Death Angel joins forces with Pulp's enduring vigilante The Black Bat to battle the eternal face of horror, Dracula.

Horror News Network: Who is the creative team involved in the book?

Joe Gentile: Writer: Mike Bullock, Art: Eric Johns, Cover: Dan Brereton.

Horror News Network: Can you give us a synopsis of the Domino Lady vs. Mummy comic?

Joe Gentile: The Egyptian sorceress Nephthys has promised to build her mummified mistress the perfect mate. Together, they cut a bloody swath across 1930’s Hollywood in search of the last few perfect bodies to harvest to complete the process. The last thing Nepthys or the mummy expected to run across was The Domino Lady, a perfect body that fights back.

Horror News Network: Who is the creative team involved in the book?

Joe Gentile: Writer: Bobby Nash, Artist: Rock Baker and Jeff Austin, Cover: Dan Brereton.

Horror News Network: Are there any more titles involved in this event?

Joe Gentile: Yes, one more...The Phantom Detective vs Frankenstein. Writer: Aaron Shaps, artist: Andrew Froedge, Cover: Dan Brereton.

It is described as: One of the greatest crimefighters in pulp history crosses paths with the most iconic monster in all of pop culture! Frankenstein’s monster is on a rampage in New York, leaving a trail of destruction—and dead bodies—in his wake, but before the Phantom Detective can stop him, the World’s Greatest Sleuth must contend with the insidious, occult Nazi brotherhood known as the Order of the Black Sun!

Horror News Network: After these one shots wrap up, what happens to the monsters? Do they go back on the shelf or is something else planned for them at Moonstone?

Joe Gentile: That is a very good question that is still being discussed.

Horror News Network: Are each of the above titles in black and white?

Joe Gentile: Each book will have 8 more pgs of story than the standard comics, and the b/w art will be grayscaled with tones and/or textures to enhance that creepy kind of cinematic pulp scare!

Horror News Network: Where can our readers find out more about Return of the Monsters?

Joe Gentile: At this time, nowehere but ComicMonsters.com!

Horror News Network: In closing, what would you like to say about Return of the Monsters?

Joe Gentile: They are Fun stories...where we give you more bang for your buck!  They each stand alone, so you dont have to feel obligated to but them all...although they all are cool!

Plus, we feel pretty strong about the characters that are mixed up with the monsters...our pulp characters. They have so much to offer, and we hope that the monster fans will dig them!
