FUBAR Empire of the Rising Dead interview with Jeff McComseyFUBAR Empire of the Rising Dead interview with Jeff McComsey

The indie smash hit is back with its second stand alone volume. From the harbors of Hawaii to the streets of Tokyo this zombie Kamikaze smashing epic, FUBAR II: Empire of the Rising Dead follows a full blown zombie outbreak in the middle of the Pacific theater of World War II as the Allies come face to face with the walking dead - again!

We caught up with creator, Jeff McComsey to talk about FUBAR: Empire of the Rising Dead.

Horror News Network: Can you talk a bit about the response you received when the original FUBAR book was released?

Jeff McComsey:  The initial response was so positive the plans to do a second volume were immediate. I've been doing cons for years with various projects and I truthfully wasn't ready for how well FUBAR volume 1 sold. It's now in it's second printing and continues to sell at cons and shops across the country.

Horror News Network: Which creators are involved in this second FUBAR book?

Jeff McComsey: Just about every creator from volume 1 re-upped for volume 2. In addition to that we have a bunch of fresh blood involved too. Very excited to have Joe (Digital Pimps) Dunn, Rafer (Plastic Farm) Roberts and Michael (Novo) Bracco illustrating scripts. We also got Shawn (Vic Boone), Mark (Break Neck) Bertolini and Jeff (Teddy and the Yeti) McClelland to write some great scripts. There are just over 40 different writers and artists mixing it up in this volume.

Horror News Network: How difficult is it to get this book together with all the different creators involved?

Jeff McComsey: It's definitely challenging. The biggest task is keeping everything organized. Different stories need different things. Some guys need letterers some need inks. Keeping in touch and being available to answer questions is critical. We've got some teriffic creators involved with this volume and a lot of it is just getting the creators started or getting them scripts to draw and backing off while they do their thing. Having a large group of people involved is initially challenging but it pays off when it comes time to promote the book. I've got around 40 creators talking up the project. We're planning a massive event with lots of creators signing at multiple shops in December. It's our own personal FUBAR "D-Day"

Horror News Network: Will we get to see any more of the famous WW2 players in FUBAR 2: Empire of the Rising Dead?

Jeff McComsey: Oh yeah! We've got another installment of F. D. ARRGH with Harry Truman, and we have a story about a young Marine named Lee Marvin.

Horror News Network: The original FUBAR book featured a few pages in the back for sketches from the creators. Will FUBAR 2: Empire of the Rising Dead have the same?

Jeff McComsey: Absolutely. I had to add 2 additional sketch pages for this volume. The first volume had 15 stories with about 17 creators involved. Volume 2 has over 40 creators involved. It's going to be tough for to wrangle up sketches for this volume as we have more than a few international creators on this one.

Horror News Network: Where can our readers find out more about FUBAR 2: Empire of the Rising Dead?

Jeff McComsey: Right here:  At the blog you can check out some previews of both volumes and galleries of our other merch.

You can order Volume 1 with a sketch HERE:  AND you can pre-order Volume 2 HERE:

Horror News Network: In closing, what would you like to say about FUBAR 2: Empire of the Rising Dead?

Jeff McComsey: FUBAR 2 is 27 stories and 256 pages of World War 2 zombie pulp fiction ready for mass consumption.  This is the second volume which is stand alone (you don't have to have read volume 1) This volume focuses on the Pacific theater of World War 2. Volume 1 covered the European theater.

If you like the Walking Dead you'll like FUBAR. If you like War books you'll LOVE FUBAR.

We are available for pre-orders in comic shops this month (October). Because we're indie/small-press a lot of shops won't take a chance on a book not under one of the main companies so if you'd like to get a copy just ask your local comic shop to order up a few. Otherwise we might not make it into your shop. It's located on page 220 of October's PREVIEWS catalog under Alterna comics. We can use all the help we can get from you guys!
