Twisted Dark interview with Neil GibsonTwisted Dark interview with Neil Gibson

Twisted Dark is a collection of stories that are twisted and dark in nature and they are all subtly related.

We caught up with creator, Neil Gibson, to talk about Twisted Dark.

Horror News Network: How did you come up with the concept for Twisted Dark?

Neil Gibson: I love comics and I always have done. Last year I got posted for a job in the Middle East and with no friends and family about, I thought I would make use of my free time and create something.  I wanted to start off with short stories before embarking on a long series and I personally find stories that make you think and have a delicious twist very appealing. Twisted Dark grew out of that.

Horror News Network: Can you provide a synopsis of each of the stories contained in the first volume.

Neil Gibson:  That’s a little difficult to do because there are 12 stories! Each story is self contained and works as a standalone. However, each story is connected so the reader will see the same characters meet each other at different points and events that affect one character may have been caused by another one. Ultimately the reader will have to read all the volumes at least 2 or 3 times to spot all the connections. There are so many Easter Eggs that I doubt anyone will find them all! In terms of content, they vary from a pushman in Japan to Colombian drug Lords to teenage American girls to Indian Labourers in the Middle East. Each character has a journey and a story to tell.

Horror News Network: Can you do the same for the second?

Neil Gibson: It is a continuation of the first volume, only with more humour and lightness. I am all about feedback and some people said the first volume was a little too dark for their taste.

Horror News Network: What can readers expect from this comic in terms of creepiness?

Neil Gibson: At New York Comic Con a Chinese lady cried after reading the second story, an English lady burst out laughing and an American lady was freaked out and showed me the hairs standing up on her arm. People are creeped out by different things and everyone reacts differently to different stories. I have only had positive reviews so far and I think there is something for everyone in the collection. Most people tend to find the stories building a sense of dread but they don’t know where it is going.

Horror News Network:  Do you have plans for a Twisted Dark volume 3?

Neil Gibson: Already in the works! I have enough stories in my head right now to make 5 volumes at least, but I will keep going as long as I have good stories.

Horror News Network: Where can our readers find out more about Twisted Dark?

Neil Gibson: Apart from you fine website, they can just google Twisted Dark Gibson and they will find loads of reviews. My website will be revamped soon, but there are still plenty of free stories there – www.neilgibsoncomics.com

Horror News Network: Horror News Network: In closing, what would you like to say to our readers about Twisted Dark?

Neil Gibson: If you prefer superheroes, this may not be for you, but if you are more fond of the Vertigo style of books, the twilight zone or Richard Matheson, this one is for you.

Buy it damn you!
