The acclaimed creative team behind MARVEL ZOMBIES 3 returns with another adventure that takes place in the Marvel U! The vampire. The witch. The werewolf. The muck-monster. The devil. They're nobody's idea of heroes, but they're all that stands between our world and an unstoppable apocalypse!
We talked to writer, Fred Van Lente, about what to expect from Marvel Zombies 4: Midnight Sons.
The Big Bad Wolf: At the end of Marvel Zombies 3, Morbius says that it is time for the
Midnight Sons to return. It has been a long time since we last saw the
Midnight Sons in action.
The final page depicts Hellstorm, Man-Thing, Werewolf by Night and
Jennifer Kale standing behind Morbius. With the exception of Werewolf by
Night, those characters were never a part of the original Midnight Sons.
Will they be the new members?
Fred Van Lente: Yup, you got it!
The Big Bad Wolf: Can we expect to see Ghost Rider, the Nightstalkers and Doctor
Strange
added to this Midnight Sons team?
Fred Van Lente: Well, many of the original Midnight Sons are not in play for one reason or
another. Doctor Strange is wrapped up in on-going events in NEW AVENGERS,
Ghost Rider has his own series, and Blade is currently serving with Captain
Britain on MI:13. And the Darkhold is currently getting a workout in MIGHTY
AVENGERS, I believe.
I also wanted to stalk the series with characters I had the most affinity
for, hence the line-up you see here.
And "Midnight Sons" was just too cool a name to let go to waste...
"The Steve Gerber Revenge Squad" didn't have quite the same ring to it.
The Big Bad Wolf: Of course the Midnight Sons will be facing off against the dreadedMarvel Zombies, but is there any chance that we may see old Midnight Sons villains like the Darkhold Dwarf or Lilith?
Fred Van Lente: Not those two specifically, although I do like both of them quite a bit.
No, the Big Bad in MZ4 is a member of the Dark Reign's Cabal known to dabble
in the supernatural, although not entirely of his own free will...
And where The Hood goes, can the Dread Dormmamu be far behind?
The Big Bad Wolf: Will Marvel Zombies 4 Midnight Sons be a four issue series?
Fred Van Lente: Yup.
The Big Bad Wolf: Do you have any estimate on when the first issue is due out?
Fred Van Lente: http://www.marvel.com/catalog/?id=11470.
Not an April's Fool joke!
The Big Bad Wolf: At this point is there any word on the rest of the creative team?

Fred Van Lente: The entire MARVEL ZOMBIES 3 crew is back: Me, artist Kev Walker, colorist
Jean-Francois Beaulieu, and cover artist Greg Land. If it ain't broke, why
fix it, that's Marvel's motto.
The Big Bad Wolf: What can we expect from Marvel Zombies 4 Midnight Sons in terms of blood and gore?
Fred Van Lente: Buckets. Well, no, not buckets. MZ3 was buckets.
Here, it's more like whole dump trucks of blood and gore.
I said at the beginning of MARVEL ZOMBIES 3 that we would try and out-gore
the previous two MZ installments and I can tell you that we out-gore MZ3 in
*the opening sequence* of MARVEL ZOMBIES 4. Sometimes I truly disturb
myself.
The Big Bad Wolf: In your opinion, why do you think this Marvel Zombies franchise has been so successful?
Fred Van Lente: The gore. And a healthy amount of
tongue-ripped-out-and-stuck-through-the-other-guy's-cheek humor.
The Big Bad Wolf: After Marvel Zombies 4 wraps up, do you think there is a possibility of the Midnight Sons returning with their own series?
Fred Van Lente: Um, yes, please? Paging Marvel Editorial...
The Big Bad Wolf: In closing, what would you like to say to our readers about Marvel Zombies 4: Midnight Sons?
Fred Van Lente: Monsters unite to fight a massive cabal of supervillains who are trying to
steal the secret of an unstoppable zombie plague from a disembodied head.
Excitement, gore, adventure, chills, and gore ensue.
Isn't this what makes comics great?
The Big Bad Wolf: Thank you for your time, Fred! Best of luck with Marvel Zombies 4!
