Carnival Comics Atomic Dreams news

Posted on Thursday, July 02 @ 12:59:50 PDT by TheBigBadWolf

Carnival Comics announces the first exclusive digital publication of a graphic book on the smartphones. The first chapter of Atomic Dreams: The Lost Journal Of J. Robert Oppenheimer will be released on July 4th through Blackberry, iPhone and Google Android's respective App distribution. This will be the first comic book to be released on Nokia.

Atomic Dreams is a graphic book about J. Robert Oppenheimer and the race to build the atomic bomb. There is a very Charles Dickensesque feel to the telling of this epic tale of a man torn between patriotism to his country, and his conscience as a human being. "This is a story that needs to be told." states the writer, Wild. "With the current tension with Iran and North Korea, we need to remember the lessons of our past, as to not make them our future. When writing this story I did not want to make a judgement on character, but rather show that there are consequences for our actions. I feel this man of clear genius was put in a position that I do not envy. Ultimately Oppenheimer graced the covers of Time Life Magazine, had his security clearance stripped from him in a very public trial, only to be brought back and given a Presidential Medal by the same country that years earlier had declared him a threat. This is an amazing life."

The Darkness/Pitt news

Posted on Wednesday, July 01 @ 13:33:10 PDT by TheBigBadWolf

Top Cow Productions, Inc. proudly announced today that Dale Keown’s classic hero, Pitt, will make his return to comics in the long awaited crossover event The Darkness/Pitt. The three-issue mini-series reunites Pitt creator and artist Dale Keown (Hulk: The End) with writer Paul Jenkins (Captain America, Mythos), who worked together on the second volume of The Darkness. The first issue of The Darkness/Pitt is scheduled for release in August 2009.

First published by Image Comics in 1993, Pitt is a human-alien hybrid genetically engineered to serve as a killing machine for an alien race known as the Creed. Dale Keown continued self-publishing Pitt under his own company, Full Bleed Studios, in 1995. After publishing twenty issues, Keown put Pitt on hold to work for other companies, drawing The Darkness with writer Paul Jenkins for Top Cow Productions and The Hulk for Marvel Entertainment. Since the regular series ended in 1998, fans of the character have had to make do with limited appearances by Pitt as a guest star in other books. The story behind The Darkness/Pitt follows Pitt and his human half-brother Tim on their mission to New York to track down those infected by an alien virus. But mob boss and current bearer of the mystical power of The Darkness, Jackie Estacado, doesn’t permit anything to go down in his neighborhood unless he knows about it. When the two forces attract the unwanted attention of the Federal Government, mayhem ensues!

Werewolves on the Moon: Versus Vampires #2 preview

Posted on Wednesday, July 01 @ 13:30:10 PDT by TheBigBadWolf

Werewolves on the Moon: Versus Vampires #2 will arrive in stores on July 9 from Dark Horse Comics. The issue is written by Dave Land, Matt Fillbach and Shawn Fillbach, with art by Matt Fillbach and Shawn Fillbach.

Here's how Dark Horse describes the issue:

"It's not easy being the King of the Vampires. Especially when you're living on the Moon. Sure you're safe on the dark side with plenty of time to plan your vampire invasion of Earth, but it's the little things that really ruin what would otherwise be an ideal situation. Like the fact that your choice of bride is the Captain of the Moon Patrol and would sooner drive a stake through your heart than become your wife. Or the sudden appearance of three werewolves named Ted, Jeff, and Stan who are causing general mayhem and threatening to turn the entire human population of the Moon into one huge, snarling, fur-covered roadblock on your road to total lunar domination. It can all get to be a bit much. It really makes you wonder why you even bother to get out of the coffin in the evening . . . "

Werewolves on the Moon: Versus Vampires #2 will be 32 pages and will cost $3.50.

Dark Horse Brings ''DHP'' Home with Buffy

Posted on Wednesday, July 01 @ 13:26:12 PDT by TheBigBadWolf

The Eisner-winning free webcomics anthology “MySpace Dark Horse Presents” turns two-years-old this week, and is back with a brand new digital issue -- sans the “MySpace," that is.

CBR News has confirmed that following a very public round of layoffs that saw over 400 people lose their jobs last month – including every single person associated with comic book content -- MySpace.com is presently unable to accommodate Dark Horse’s latest virtual issue of “Dark Horse Presents,” which includes new work from Gilbert Hernandez, Mike Kindt, newcomer Mike Lawrence, and Joss Whedon & Jo Chen, who debut this week a brand new “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” story created exclusively for the online anthology.
