| One of the most popular cult films is coming to comics. Debbie Does Dallas.
We spoke with writer, Brian Ferrara, about the book.
The Big Bad Wolf: How did this comic come about?
Brian Ferrara: Our sensibilities seem to lean towards the offensive/mature end of the spectrum, which isn't the most mainstream/money-making kind of content you can work on. So, we decided to create a new property targeted towards the tween Walmart market and try to fool some suits into thinking we were family friendly creators all the while hiding our ulterior motive of cashing in, buying Ferrari's, mansions, elephant-man bones, etc.
We went to the licensing show at the Javitz center this past summer to start researching. After about two hours of walking around and wanting to barf shiny pink doll heads, we headed up the last aisle where Arrow Productions
stood in all of their rebellious, dangerous, pornographic glory (at least that's how I perceived it). We were sucked in (heh) and before we knew it, the ideas started flying and the whole tween-bullshit-thing was flushed down the toilet, replaced by something that we now know is better suited to our black, soulless nature. It was like a coming of age tale where we finally accepted ourselves for who we were; degenerate comic creators with a penchant for blood and boobs.
The Big Bad Wolf: How did the zombie breakout occur?
Brian Ferrara: Who said they were Zombies? I've been calling them mutants so that I can give em' like six arms or crazy razor dicks if I want to. I don't want to be limited, ya' know?
The Big Bad Wolf: Will we see anyone else from the movie appear in this comic?
Brian Ferrara:
There are some nods to the Debbie legacy sprinkled around the book, but the comic really has nothing to do with anything that came before it.
The Big Bad Wolf: Does this comic take place in the current time or is it set in the late 70's?
Brian Ferrara: The comic takes place in the not-too-distant future. It's close enough to the present to be relatable, but far away enough to have awesome robots.
The Big Bad Wolf: The movie is such a cult classic, do you guys feel any added pressure because of that?
Brian Ferrara:
Holy shit, yes. The pressure really comes from the fact that we strayed so far away from the typical expectations that it's bound to piss some people off. First off- it's not porn! There are boobs and maybe a little
sexin', but it's not strictly spank material. I really feel that making such a drastic decision regarding the direction of the book is in the same spirit of the original material. They were mavericks, doing what they wanted to do,
making movies the way they wanted to make them and it pissed off people on one side and appealed to people on the other. I know I'm going to get shit for this book, but I'm proud of it. It's offensive for reasons other than being pornographic. Mixing Debbie Does Dallas with religious overtones and violence is going to offend some people and leaving out the porn is going to annoy others, but I know there are going to be a lot of people who get
what we're doing and will really enjoy the book. It's a fun, quality book that will draw a line in the sand with fans and I think that's what Debbie Does Dallas originally did. Don't get me wrong though, we've got tits on page 1. Nice ones too.
The Big Bad Wolf: What can fans expect from this book?

Brian Ferrara: They can expect high-quality artwork from a Russ Manning nominee, insane coloring that in my opinion bests a lot of the stuff the big boys are currently putting out and a story with some more meat (heh again) than they may be expecting, which equates to a really good 10-15 minutes on the toilet.
The Big Bad Wolf: How much is the book?
Brian Ferrara:
Depends how much you wanna pay for it! Seriously though, that's still TBD.
The Big Bad Wolf: When will it be out?
Brian Ferrara:
The book debuts at the 2008 Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas this January and will also be available on the Terminal Press website in limited quantities.
The Big Bad Wolf: When are the other comics mentioned in the press release ("Deep Throat," "Candy Stripers," "Tell Them Johnny Wadd Was Here") coming out?
Brian Ferrara: We're shooting for a summer con season release for the other titles along with the continuation of the Debbie story. They'll be released in a magazine format anthology featuring all the different creative team's reinterpretations. I can't talk about it too much yet, but we are going to have some really cool creators working on the other stories.
The Big Bad Wolf: Do the other books have horror related themes as well?
Brian Ferrara: Once again, can't say too much, but at least one other iconic adult title is going to be horror themed and it's one we haven't even mentioned yet. Start googling. I'm sure you can figure it out...
The Big Bad Wolf: Thank you for your time, Brian. Have fun at the Adult Entertainment Expo!
