| People don't believe in magic anymore, so that magic is being stolen from them...secretly. Forged in the flames of the Salem witch hunts, Witch Hunter is resurrected 300 years later at the dawn of a new world order to fight the powers that be which hide in the shadows and point the finger of blame at everyone but themselves. He hunts the hunters.
We caught up with Witch Hunter writer,
Vincent Ferrante, at the New York Comic Con.
The Big Bad Wolf: Can you give us a synopsis
of Witch Hunter?
Vincent
Ferrante: In Witch Hunter's world, nobody believes in
magic anymore. The powers that be are sucking magic out of everyone so
that they can create a new world order. So basically what Witch Hunter
does is, he hunts the hunters. He goes after the powers that be, that
hide in the shadows and he tries to protect humanity.
The Big Bad Wolf: Who are the main characters in the book?
Vincent Ferrante: The main
characters are Witch Hunter, The Woman in Black,
and Witch Hunters companion Kitty.
Kitty wears a mask because her face was taken away
from her because of vanity. Kitty is able to see peoples true nature by
what comes onto her mask. She is Witch Hunters traveling companion, learning
humility. She has no visual element anymore so she is exploring what she
is inside.
The Woman in Black was so abused when when she
was little. Now she uses her power to get things from people and keep
them at bay. There will be a lot of self discovery.
I don't really think that you can have horror and
drama without humor to balance it out. We
have been having fun with it.
Planet Lovecraft Magazine, which is a new horror
book, wants us to run a ten page Witch Hunter comic each issue. Dave Ryan
who is doing War of the Independents has included Witch Hunter as well
and also letting us do a backup story.
The Big Bad Wolf: How many issues of Witch
Hunter have there been so far?
Vincent Ferrante: In the
90's we ran a Witch Hunter strip in a magazine called Comic Culture Magazine.
Then we did an ashcan addition that was sold at conventions. The first
issue is a 48 page special. Frank Brunner is our new cover artist starting
with issue two. We will probably do six issues this year.
We are also releasing a second book, like an anthology.
It is going to be sort of like the Eerie and Creepy magazine from the
1970's.
The Big Bad Wolf: I see an awesome Witch
Hunter statue at your booth. What's the story behind that?
Vincent Ferrante:
I met a sculptor from Florida. He asked if he can do a statue. He did
this great prototype. He did a mold and we can get 200 castings from it.
We are going to start selling it as a limited edition. He plans on doing
a Woman in Black next.
The Big Bad Wolf:
Where can fans get more information on Monarch Comics and Witch
Hunter?
Vincent
Ferrante: You
can reach us on MySpace at: www.myspace.com/witchhuntercomicdotcom.
We also have a website MonarchComicsLair.com.
The Big Bad Wolf: Finally, what would you
like to say to fans reading this?
Vincent Ferrante:
I hope fans have a lot of fun with this. If they
feel inspired or empowered by it in any way, then I feel like I have made
you happy, and that is fine with me.
The Big Bad Wolf: Thank
you for your time, Vin. Good luck with everything Witch Hunter related.
