“Leprechaun” the comic series is a tale of revenge and mayhem. This is the tale of Lubdan, the king and sole survivor of the Leprechaun. The last of the Leprechauns!
We spoke with writer, Zach Hunchar, about the project.
The Big Bad Wolf: Can you give our readers a synopsis of the Leprechaun comic?
Zach Hunchar: The protagonist, Lubdan (that’s an I – pronounced Yub-dan) is on a quest to recover his stolen gold coins. It’s essentially the same thing as the films. I've just expanded the character's history to give him motivation. Plus, several humans come along for the ride.
The Big Bad Wolf:
Who are the main characters?
Zach Hunchar: Well, besides Lubdan, there is the main human character Ethan. He'll change the most over the story-line. His best friend Sean is pretty goofy. Also, there is love interest Rachael who becomes a major part of the heroics.
The Big Bad Wolf: Where does this story fit into the Leprechaun mythos?
Zach Hunchar: I am trying to work as much of the mythos into the story without diluting the movie-aspects. This character is a lot more kinetic than the mythical creatures.
The Big Bad Wolf: Will we see plenty of blood, guts and gruesome deaths?
Zach Hunchar:
I'm trying. It's challenging incorporating those aspects into the story-line while balancing plot and character development. One of the upcoming issues will be called "22 Pages of Death." You can use your imagination.
The Big Bad Wolf: Is this an ongoing, or mini series?
Zach Hunchar: Right now it seems like a maxi-series. I’m not sure what the publishers long-term goals are. I'll keep going until I run out of ideas or they pull the plug.
The
Big Bad Wolf: When is the release date?
Zach Hunchar: May 2009.
The Big Bad Wolf: How much is the book?
Zach Hunchar: $3.99 per issue.
The Big Bad Wolf: Who's the creative team on the book?
Zach Hunchar: We're still in the early stages. I've seen the first issue's art and it’s by Kris Carter. He has a very deliberate and measured style, yet he’s flourished with his adaptability given the manic story structure. I see anticipate strong reactions to his finished art.
The Big Bad Wolf: Where can our readers find out more about Leprechaun?
Zach Hunchar: The Bluewater (www.bluewaterprod.com) website would be a great start. After that, your local comic book store when it comes out!.
The Big Bad Wolf: In closing, what would you like to say to our readers about Leprechaun?
Zach Hunchar: It's been a lot of fun to write and I hope you readers feel the same way after you purchase it..
The Big Bad Wolf: Thank
you for your time, Zach. Best of luck with Leprechaun!
