James Warren's rolling over in his grave, and he's not even dead yet!

I did not know Warren Publishing was the Father of Vampy.
Thanks for the vine.
At any rate same question posed... Harris I thought was on reasonable sturdy ground and Vampy I thought was one of their cornerstones.
Why forward to Fangoria?
Why is Fangoria picking it up? Monthly run?
Cheers Mate! _________________

He's a little more vine to swing from.
In the early '80s, James Warren got sick with some kind of immune deficiency disease. Warren Communications went bankrupt in 1983, leaving artwork and ownership rights in question, with creators claiming they never signed work-for-hire agreements and therefore owned what they created. Harris Publishing "aquired" the rights to some of the Warren back catalog, including Creepy, Eerie, Vampirella and Famous Monsters of Filmland.
Eventually, James Warren recovered to the point where he was able to launch an $80 million lawsuit against Harris Publications, alleging that Harris had stolen his characters and featured them in new stories and one movie (Showtime's Vampirella) without his permission. The suit was filed May 19, 1998. After a few years Warren was awarded Creepy and Eerie, while Harris retained ownership of Vampirella and Famous Monsters of Filmland.
As recently as January 2005, James Warren stated that he was actively fielding licensing requests for Creepy and Eerie, including possible reprints of classic stories from the magazines as well as movie adaptations.
"I get a lot of offers from publishers who want to reprint stuff," Warren says. "I'm waiting for the right offer. DC Comics made a very generous offer. I'm considering that.

I'm guessing that since Harris hasn't had a lot of luck publishing lately (What happened to the Vampirella magazine they were putting out?), they decided to license the character to Fangoria.

Greetings, four-color Children of the Night.....
Yes, the original Bad Girl Bloodsucker has a new crypt to call her own- and I think you'll all be VERY happy with the results!
I can't spill much yet, but believe me, this ain't Roger Daltry's Vampi! We're going back to what made VAMPIRELLA a legend, and using legends in the process!
FANGORIA ENTERTAINMENT will ONLY bring you the best in horror, in all it's many menacing mediums. Vampi is BACK- and believe me she's getting the star treatment at The True House of Horrors!!!
Close guess, HELLSTORM.
The new powers-that-be at Fango have loved Vampi since her inception, and worked long and hard to own her. That's what's going to make the difference in the end results of ALL the VAMPIRELLA projects and products- passion! That's what's made FANGORIA ENTERTAINMENT the horror juggernaut it's become over the last two years- their love for horror and the brains, talent and means to make it happen.
Fangoria Sirius Radio (I have a surprise coming up about that), the CHAINSAW AWARDS, Fangoria TV, Fango Films, Fango Comics, the WEEKEND OF HORRORS events (next stop Chi-town- Feb 23-25), the horde of websites, a WHOLE bunch of stuff I can't even tell you yet and of course the MAGAZINE!!!
More to come.... now go check out the first sneak peek at BUMP (BBW should have it up soon).... created by MARK KIDWELL, screenplay and artwork by MARK KIDWELL, digitally painted by JAY FOTOS, produced for film by MARK KIDWELL, directed and special effects by ROBERT KURTZMAN....
hey, did I mention the Kid? _________________ Your Bud in Four-Color Blood,

Thanks for the news Fangoria.
I think that the passion you have for Vampirella is something that was seriously missing in the books. Here's hoping that Fangoria will bring it back to her. _________________ "I'm thinkin' we'll rise again."

Most excellent. I am assuming that means her own monthly run.
To Harris credit I thought the Halloween special 2006 was superb. Vampi looked HOT and the dialogue was wonderful.
I look forward to picking up the new read and seeing/feeling the passion your group has for the character. In my opinion she is a juggernaut that has stood the test of time and Revalations/Witchblade and classic vampy still continue to be great reads.
Cheers and best of luck. Keep us informed. _________________
