Eben Olemaun
1st app- 30 Days of Night #1
While he was watching his last sunset for a month outside Barrow, Alaska, little did sheriff Olemaun know that his town would be ravaged in short by a swarm of vampires. His first contact with the undead was in the local tavern. A foreigner was asking for alcohol and raw meat and, since they refused to serve him, he had gone hostile. The sheriff and his wife took him to jail, but he told them that he would be free and that his pack would feed of them. They would not have believed him if they had not seen an explosion outside in the communications center and the man had not bended the jail bars with his bare hands. Olemaun shot him in the head and he died. When they arrived to the communications center, it had been totally destroyed and the man in charge had been beheaded. They were isolated.
The vampires struck fast. Shortly after, most people was dead and only a few survivors, including Olemaun and his wife, survived hidden in a cellar. However, the vampires were searching for them and they had plenty of time before the next sunrise. Besides, they had no food down there and Olemaun had to sneak outside from time to time to get some. He had learned that bullets did nothing to vampires. Eventually, he guessed that removing their heads would do the trick. He almost believed they had a chance when a vampire named Vicente arrived and killed the former leader, Marlow. Apparently, he was angry because they had put the secret of their existance at stake. He wanted to kill everyone and to burn the town to ashes. Time had run out. Olemaun could think of only one solution. He injected himself with the blood of a vampire they had killed inside and turned into one of them. Gathering all the self control he could, instead of killing everyone, he confronted Vicente. The older vampire was more used to his condition than Olemaun, but he was fighting for his people. Amazingly, Olemaun killed Vicente and told the others off. Then, he waited with his wife for the sunrise and vanished in a pile of ashes. He had chosen not to live as an undead. Credit- CCDB
