“Follow the frantic journey of Doctor Ian Scott, a man seeking
his one ray of hope in a post-apocalyptic nightmare United States. The
zombies have come and (mostly) gone, but the disease is still out there,
threatening the survivors. The country swarms with roving packs of wild
animals—and worse, desperate humans—ready to do whatever it takes to
survive. Through it all, one man must drive from Colorado to New York to
reunite with the woman he loves…before it’s too late for either of
them!“
Artwork: 4.0 out of 5
If the cover is not enough for you on this one, then you will be sold on
the interiors. Now I am not 100% familiar with the art styles of
Antarctic Press books, but from what I know they tend to lean more
towards the Manga look. Not all of them of course, but I think the
majority do. So to have this book finally in hand I have to say I am
happy with the way the art went. It is fantastic looking black and white
book, I would have preferred the color no other way, that has more
realistic art qualities to it. The few zombies we see are gore-geous! I
have one downside though and it came in the letter department. I did not
like the choice of font, solely based on the E’s. It was very
distracting. That is my only complaint on the artistic side.
Story: 4.0 out of 5
I’ll start off by saying there is a great forward on the inside cover by
Brian Keene. It is a nice introduction to the book where he explains
why this is going to be a different zombie book, as if the title doesn’t
tell you that. Basically we have a good solid first issue here. We
setup the world, get introduced to the characters and are given the
basic plot. Dialogue is great, pacing is spot on. It’s just a nice build
up issue that gets you ready for what is to come. So light action and
more talk but it works very well.
Dying Breath: 4.0 out of 5
Great artwork and a great building story really make this one a book you
need to check out. Personally I have not read Brian’s novels, but I
have to admit that I am intrigued to, to get a sense of how he
approaches the zombie culture. As I mentioned on a recent podcast show, I
love the idea behind this. Presenting a world where were no longer
watching people survive rise of the zombie, but instead seeing how they
cope with the world after. Anyone who enjoys Resurrection I think needs
to give this one a look. I can’t wait to see how this universe is formed
based on the information given here. I am putting my must read stamp on
this series now! Oh and I almost forgot, this issue also include the
Littlest
Zombie short from
A
Very Zombie Christmas, which is another must read!
