This past Wednesday, The 7 issue mini-series Severed came to an end. This series was a much needed breath of fresh air not so much for Image comics but for the industry in general.
The name Scott Snyder and the recommendation by a comic shop employee by where I work lead me to picking up the first issue. What kept me reading was the unique pacing for a comic book. The 7th issue replaces the slower, methodical pacing pacing for a high anxiety read that was well worth it, and would not have been able to attain otherwise without the set up.
More into the substance of the issue, it was so packed that they had to cut out the fan letters page (you can find it online). Without giving much away, we do find out how Jack lost his arm, we find out how much Sam was really able to help him, and we really find out what kind of man Jack is.
The way the book wraps up ties up a nearly all the lose ends, but still leaves you wanting more in a way that only an exceptional horror story can leave you. And all of this with exceptional art too. Art that really brings this wonderfully twisted nightmare to life. I highly recommend picking up this issue. I've not only picked up all 7 issues, but I'm going to pick up the hardcover when it comes out in April too, and I hope I'm not the only one!
