| Human Gargoyles Cover Art By Maelo Cintron
Sketch #1
For this Cover I recalled an old painting I once did for a book called Earthblood, the character was similarly dressed and had a gun on his hip.

It gave an idea of a protector/gunfighter, which was perfect since the main character, Andy, in the story of the Human Gargoyles, by Alan Hewetson, was an Officer of the Law. Based on that this is what I came up with for the first Sketch.

After reviewing the first Sketch I felt it was too “tame” with little emotion. I proceeded with the second Sketch adding more detail in his features, adding a torn shirt and some bloody wounds like he was in the middle of a fight. Also drawing the wings in a more interesting perspective. Alan was happy and told me to proceed with the sketch.

During my next phase I felt the shirt was not needed, as he looked more interesting without it. I proceeded to improve the details and this was the final sketch, and was done on Bristol Board in pencil.

For the final painting I used watercolors with a combination of Brush and Air Brushing, on the Bristol Board Sketch. I originally wanted it to have deeper yellows and reds but didn’t want to overdo it and liked how it came out. Alan was happy with the finished work, and final Cover.
