Our thoughts: In a book that certainly needs no introduction in the Comicmonsters community, “The Living Corpse” is back in action with his first annual a couple of special friends: Cassie and Vlad from Hack/Slash. While not everyone likes their chocolate in their peanut butter, this crossover is a real treat.
One of the great things about annuals is that they are usually great jumping in points for anyone unfamiliar with the comic. This book provides an introduction to both series and has a cool story about the Jersey Devil that stands alone. Regardless of how much the reader knows of either series, they can enjoy this story and will definitely want more of both.
It’s great to see Cassie Hack drawn in such a bright and animated way. It makes everything more fun and fresh…if a story with corpses, flying witch babies, and loads and loads of internal organs can be fresh, that is. Haeser’s sense of humor comes through perfectly and the nod to The Blair Witch Project is classic. Extra props to whichever artist tackled the panel with the map. That’s dedication!
“The Living Corpse” team has poured their heart and soul into this series and their love toward their character is clear. It is not easy to make a lovable zombie, but they’ve done it. Viva la Corpse!
