When we originally planned the Nosferatu project, we had a couple of
different approaches to Orlock's appearance--after a couple of false starts, artist
Mark Menendez supplied this pen-and-ink character study.

When we settled on a physical appearance we wanted a color scheme to
suggest his undead condition with pallid, almost luminiscent skin tones. Mark
Menendez rendered Orlock such unliving color, you could almost smell Nosferatu's
"coffin breath."

Although this original page by artist Rik Levins is striking and
beautifully rendered, it doesn't capture the mood that the completed page below has,
with additional gray tones added by Melissa Martin.

Although well-compsed, this splash page by Kevin Van Hook from the
third chapter was never used because it didn't quite convey what we wanted in the
way of atmosphere.

However, the exceptionally talented Frank Turner gave us exactly
what we were hoping for, particularly with the masterful effect of the stained glass
window in the background.

Fans can see a preview of the first chapter on my comic space page, here.
