SAW 3

SAW3Saw 3: The Games Continue

Released on DVD last week was “Saw 3,” the latest installment of twisted games people have grown to hold so close to their hearts…as demented as that sounds. Judging by box office returns, most of you already know that “Saw 3” opens up where “Saw 2” ends, with Detective Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) down in that familiar, dreaded basement.

It’s very clear with the “Saw” movies that you can’t give much of the plot away without being a Spoiler. I will tell you there are references back to the first two movies. However, the main plot revolves around Jigsaw (once again played to perfection by Tobin Bell) on the brink of death, and a game with one Dr. Lynn Denlon, (Bahar Soomekh) to keep him alive. Parallel to Dr. Denlon’s game is Jeff in somewhat of a “mousetrap”-like game with an array of other characters and tests….. I will leave it at that. We also get more character development of junkie-turned-Jigsaw –devotee Amanda (Shawnee Smith). Yes, it almost makes her human, yet still psycho, of course.

I thought, what could the writers of “Saw” (Leigh Whannell, James Wan) POSSIBLY do for a third installment. Those of us who love the evil genius of Jigsaw SAW_3would never want to see a “Freddy vs Jigsaw” situation (you KNOW what I mean). But in my humble opinion, I have to say “Saw 3” was better than “Saw 2.” Nothing , of course ever beats the one that started it all…but I LOVED this DVD.

Now, for the gore factor. This movie brings forth an unprecedented level of torture. One that will stay with you all night long, if you watch it past 7pm. Again, for the few that have not yet seen it, I don’t want to give it away. I think the term “shock and awe” is a good fit here.
To sum it up, see this movie…..BUY THIS DVD!!!

Gore Rating = 5

Jim Henson Puppetry Rating = 5

Overall Rating = 4 1/2
