The Texas Chainsaw Massacre #4

Publisher: Wildstorm / DC Comics
Writer: Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning
Artist: Wes Craig

From the opening page, this issue of Texas Chainsaw Massacre grabs a hold of you and doesn’t let go.

In the tunnels under Fuller, Texas, Agent Hooper and Agent Baines get separated thanks to an unseen Leatherface, bringing the tunnel down on them.

Baines and Hooper are separated and Baines finds a way out which leads him to the Blair Meat Co. As Baines approaches, a woman jumps through the window on the second floor and lands on the ground. Baines look up to see Hoyt is the reason that the woman jumped, and for good reason. Hoyt is wielding a chainsaw.

Baines fires off a shot at Hoyt and goes in. Upon entering the Meat plant, Hoyt saws Baines’ gun in half! Baines runes for cover and finds a chainsaw. Both men turn and square off.

Meanwhile, at the Fuller Gas Stop, Agent Bond and Agent Henkle continue to recover dead bodies and wonder why the “prime cuts” of the victims have been removed. Hearing a noise both men split up to find where it is coming from. Bond runs to the back room where the victims are all in body bags. Bond opens one of the bags only to get a knife through his throat thanks to Zeke.

Back at the Blair Meat Co. Agent Baines and Hoyt have a chainsaw duel. After a long, bloody battle, Baines puts his chainsaw through Hoyt’s back, apparently killing him. Exhausted after the battle, and thinking that he killed Leatherface, and avenged his daughter, Pepper, Baines crawls outside to rest. Gasping for air, Baines looks up only to see Leatherface holding his chainsaw and looking down at him.

If you enjoyed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies, you will find this comic right for you. Bulging eyes and blood all over makes the struggle for survival feel very similar to the Chainsaw movies.

Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett craft a wonderful tale that makes you feel as if you were watching this on the big screen. Wes Craig’s artwork is top notch this issue.

If you love blood, guts and gore do yourself a favor and pick up this issue.

Overall: 5 out of 5
