Hack/Slash-The Series Issue #2

Writer: Tim Seeley
Artists: Emily Stone
Publisher: Devil's Due Publishing

Review by: Sassygirl

Issue #2 of Hack Slash revolves around the metal band “Acid Washed” making a pact with the Devil (in the form of a record producer, of course) for fame and fortune.  In return, we eventually find out they must do his bidding.  The reader then sees Cassie receiving a call from Chris, from what he likes to call Hack/Slash headquarters (for background, I recommend picking up Issue #1, which rates a 5).  Chris calls to alert Cassie and Vlad of missing teenagers and the band’s suspected involvement.  The pair makes their way to one of the bands concerts, where they meet one of their biggest fans (a virgin stripper, named Georgia).  Once at the concert, all the fans are led into hell by the band, that is everyone but Vlad.  Because he is deformed, Vlad is rejected.  I won’t give out the complete ending, because I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t read this yet, and I recommend you do.

I really believe the hardcore music fans/musicians will appreciate this comic. The writing, by Tim Seeley is excellent. Demonic and sarcastic at the same time.  It also pays homage to many heavy metal favorites.  The lead singer’s name is Six Sixx. Then there’s the one-armed drummer and the under the stage room for groupies (just a little wink at Def Leppard maybe?) The artwork by Emily Stone is pretty good, as well. I, personally, can’t wait for Issue#3. I rate this a 4 out of 5.

Overall: 4 out of 5
