The first issue of Return to Wonderland, a twisted take off/ sequel to Alice in Wonderland appears to be setting the scene for the rest of the series. We meet, Alice, who is now a mother with wild kids, and she’s in a catatonic state. It seems that she spends the majority of the time petting this evil bunny. Meanwhile the rest of the family is in a bit of chaos around her. However, as the story progresses, the real protagonist turns out to be her daughter Calie.

There’s one particular scene I like after Calie takes acid with her boy friend and goes to be that night. I don’ want to give anything away, so I’ll just call it the “nightmare scene” It’s gruesome, and the artwork is fantastically sick.

The comic ends with Calie chasing her mother’s rabbit that got away down the basement stairs ( does this sounds familiar in a modern way). Setting the scene for Issue #2, Calie isn’t in the basement anymore , but in a hellish wonderland where they already know her name.

The story is definitely real and creepy. The series shows a lot of potential. I know I will be picking up the next issue. I would give Issue #1 a 3 ½ out of 5.

Overall:3 1/2 out of 5
