30 Days
of Night
by: Sassygirl
With all of the build up, the release of 30 Days
of Night has finally arrived. The big question was, would it live up to
the hype? Well,
short answer, yes. It's unlike any other horror movie out there. You will
not see most of the over used cliches we have all come to know. (None
of the female characters are scantily clad, with huge boobs, running through
a field, or no young couple gets killed while having sex) The movie stays
pretty true to the innovative comic it was based on.
One characteristic of 30 Days of Night that I liked
so much was the casting. The setting is Barrow, the northernmost point
of Alaska. Therefore, you're not going to find many metrosexuals. The
director stayed true to that. Josh Hartnett, who played the lead role
of Sheriff Eben Olemaun, did a very commendable job in the role.
The best thing about the movie was the atmosphere.
The tone was very eerie. The dark and extreme cold of Alaska really came
through the screen. Then, there were the vampires, themselves. They were
gruesome, brutal, violent, and really the stuff nightmares are made of.
A true horror movie package.
For those that have not read the comic, I am not
going to be a spoiler and give the ending away. However, the ending is
not what one who hasn't read the comic would think it would be. The movie
is unique and that is what makes it great.
Sassygirl says' do not wait for DVD. Go the the
theatre now and see it!
